The North American F-86 was an aircraft developed at theend of WW2, using German studies and design. F-86 first flew in 1947 and in 1949 entered in service. F-86 became the primary air-to-air jet fighter used in Korean War against Migs. F-86 was manufactured in nearly 10.000 pieces, one of most produced western aircraft.
This 1/12th scale model of this very famous aircraft show the F-86 F 30 s.n. 52-4584 MIG MAD MARINE on service in the 25th Fighter Squadron at Suwon AB in 1953 during Korean War. The pilot of this airplane was Maj John H Glenn, later the famous astronaut. He fly again in space in 1998, 34 years later of his last flight on Mercury space rocket. The model is 95 cm long and has a 94 cm wingspan.
The fuselage was made with a transversal frame of plywood and planking of balsa wood. The wings are made of solid wood. The cockpit and the landing gear are hand built.
