Scharnhorst |
This is a model of the battleship Scharnhorst, the “ Lucky Ship ” of the Kriegsmarine. This ship was built in 1936 and take part at several war missions in the Atlantic Ocean and in the Artic Sea during the Second World War. She was sunk in 1943 by English vessels.
This 1/100 scale model is 235 cm long and 30 cm wide at maximum. The model was built using model plan. The hull is built sawing the waterlines of the hull and glueing them together. Then all the waterlines was sanded together to obtain the correct line. After this the hull was coated of fiberglass to be water-proof. The model is ready to be equipped with two electric engines to be remote-controlled.
The decks are made by 6-10 mm thick birch plywood and the superstructure are made by wood, plastic, resin, alluminium and brass.
The main deck is covered with mahogany strips to give the “ teak-deck effect ”. All the boats, the cranes and the Arado aircraft are hand built using copper and wood.
